Taking Over the Lawn
It has been a rough summer and fall for Houston yards, drought and finally some rain. The area lawns have been challenged to say the least. Now is a good time to work on the lawn if you are thinking about putting your home on the market or would just like to enjoy your outdoors during our mild winters and be ready for spring outdoor activities.
Of course many folks hire yard services to keep their lawns in tip top shape. Others might enjoy the challenge and subsequent enjoyment of putting their lawn in beautiful condition. Working in the garden is a great way to get outdoors and enjoy a sunny afternoon. A good source of lawn care that is specific to Harris County is the Harris County Extension Service. http://harris-tx.tamu.edu They provide a detailed four page pdf download with season specific tasks for Saint Augustine lawns. There are also other resources for the wide variety of turf grasses as well as links to the Texas A&M turf grass web page. The Extension Service also offers free presentations on a variety of horticultural topics that are open to the public at their offices at 3033 Bear Creek Dr, Houston, TX 77084 and at other sites throughout the county.--Jenny J
